PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE
The whole northern hemisphere is being affected by floods take India, Bangladesh, Nepal or USA.When everybody is talking about Mumbai and forgetting the so called poor state Bihar. When politicians are trying to justify their work that this is happening every where or BMC (brihanmumbai municipal corporation) justifies its budget allocation and what they have done with it or how potholes are not their fault. When farmers are left with nothing and they are dying in Bihar,1000s of people are relocated in Houston. When everybody is playing the blame game.I am thinking why these things are happening, at the basic level why the world is facing flood problems.yeah, gov must do their job that is fine but why the world is facing global flood or I should say climate change.
Let us go to( COP 21) 21st Paris climate agreement.the sole purpose of the agreement was to reduce its emission and move towards clean energy. These conferences are held because some nations are already feeling the impact of climate change. To avoid the worst impact of climate change such as more severe droughts and floods.global sea level is rising and global land ice is disappearing.Trump administration denied these facts and withdrew from ratification and irony is that the USA contribute to a large amount of emission.
How India is getting affected:
Warming climate, impact on agriculture, extremely wet monsoon, triggering more frequent droughts and floods in large parts of India, dry years are expected to be drier and wet years wetter.
India is also a major emitter of green house gases.
Whatever is happening right now we know that these things are the consequences of our lifestyle and modernization but are countries like India Bangladesh etc ready to for the so called natural disaster.I think we can be better prepared for these things as the title of the blog says prevention is always better than cure.Cities like Mumbai they are fully packed with buildings and people also the drainage network of mithi river get clogged when it rains heavily. This is not only because of the drainage systems inefficiency but also because of solid waste product and plastic which people throw.Trash lifting rivers are the major cause of these urban floods.
I don't want to talk about the solutions here because I think everybody knows what should be done to mitigate the intensity of these natural disasters.also, BMC (brihanmumbai municipal corporation) should complete its projects for new drainage system which they started after 2005 disaster.they claim to be monsoon ready but still, there are potholes still people are dying.I think redesigning of infrastructure and networks is needed in the preparation for extreme weather conditions in urban cities.
This is just the starting these conditions will be frequent in near future until and unless we change ourselves. In the end, the message should be clear that reducing the emission along with civic authorities and citizens must take their responsibilities so that everybody can be better prepared for these mayhems in future.
